Redesigned SA252 letter scheduled for autumn
Redesigned SA252 letter due to launch in autumn

HMRC will issue a redesigned SA252 letter later this year. The document asks recipients to contact the Revenue if they are in receipt of new sources of income or if they believe their tax codes are incorrect.
The redesigned letter, previously scheduled for release in September, is now expected in October or November and will be sent to people paying tax at the higher rate. From 2012, HMRC also plans to send the new-look letter to basic rate taxpayers with more complex tax affairs.
Agents such as MSB Accounting will not receive copies of these letters but - following suggestions from representative bodies - it will include a message asking recipients to show the SA252 to their agent if they have one.
In the past, this letter has been sent to taxpayers who do not submit a self-assessment (SA) return but are liable to income tax at the higher rate.
The Revenue has confirmed that this year there will be no bulk mailing of the P810 (the review form sent to taxpayers who do not complete a SA return but where there are items in the tax code to be checked). The form, will, however, be issued on request.
